cannabis

Marijuana refers to the leaves and flowering tops of the hemp (cannabis) plant. It is also known as cannabis, bud, smoke, chronic, herb, weed, pot, ganja, reefer or dope. The state of intoxication on Marijuana is known as being high, loaded, baked, buzzed, roasted or stoned. Although sixty cannaboids (certain chemical compounds) are found in Marijuana, the psychoactive one that most affects the brain is the THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol).

The THC level in Marijuana has increased over the last quarter century. Due to advances in growing high-potency Marijuana, some Marijuana analyzed in 1997 had TMC levels as high as 17%. THC is also produced synthetically and available by prescription (Marinol). The prescription medication is used to control the nausea caused by chemotherapy in cancer patients and to stimulate appetite in AIDS patients.
