APPSC Group 1 Mains syllabus and books list

This article is in two parts, one continuation of the other. Here I mention the syllabus details and in the next post about the related best books.


Group 1 Mains syllabus.

PAPER-I
GENERAL ESSAY MARKS: 150
Candidate should write three Essays one from each section
compulsorily.

Each section contains three topics.
Each Essay carries 50 marks.

Changes in the role of public-Private Sectors and their
shares in the total plan outlay before and after economic

measures initiated to ameliorate them.
9.Monetary policy – Structure of Indian Banking and non-
banking financial institutions and reforms in them since
the 1990s—regulation of credit by RBI.

SECTION-II
LAND REFORMS & SOCIAL CHANGES IN A.P. AFTER INDEPENDENCE
1.Historical background of land reforms and the change in

reforms, ceilings on holdings and land issues in A.P.
2.Structure of the Andhra Pradesh economy - its sectoral

DEVELOPMENT OF INDIA:
UNIT 1: National policy of science and technology and
changes in the policy from time to time, Technology
Missions.
UNIT 2: Space program in India and its applications with
special reference to industrial, agricultural and other
rural developmental activities, INSAT and IRS systems.
UNIT 3: Role of Information Technology in Rural India,
basics of computers, computers in communication and
broadcasting, software development in economic growth.
Broad IT applications.
UNIT 4: Energy Resources : Energy demands, renewable
energy resources, nuclear energy, the development and its
utilization in the country.
UNIT 5: Current Science & Technology Developments in
India, Climate change, Disaster Management (Floods,
Cyclones and Tsunami ); Crop science in India, Fertilizers,

UNIT 1: Progress of Agricultural Science and its impacts -

acids (only one in each category is to be studied))
Production of low volume, high value fermentation products
(insulin, growth hormones, recombinant vaccines,

UNIT 2: Plants and human affairs, characteristics of
plants, usefulness for mankind, origin of agriculture,
useful and harmful plants. Introduction to animals,
Domestic and wild animals, usefulness of animals for
mankind, Exploitation of animals by man for food and
medical advancements.
UNIT 3: Introduction to and applications of Genetic
Engineering & Stem Cell Research: Basic concepts (the basic
process of genetic engineering) – Biotechnology in
agriculture (Bio-fertilizers, Bio-pesticides, Bio-fuels,
Genetically modified crops, Tissue culture) animal husbandry
(transgenic animals- applications) and environment

UNIT 4: Microbial infections ; Common present day
infections and preventive measures. Introduction to
bacterial, viral, protozoa and fungal infections. Basic
knowledge of infections caused by different groups of micro

PAPER-V MARKS: 150
DATA INTERPRETATION AND PROBLEM SOLVING
1.Data appreciation and interpretation using ratios,
percentages and averages.
2.Drawing conclusions from the data present in tabular,
graphical and diagrammatical forms and to point out
deficiencies, limitations or inconsistencies therein.
3.Problem solving using the following:
a)Sequences and Series : Analogies of numbers and
alphabets, completion of blank spaces in a:b::c:d, odd
thing out, missing number in a sequence or series.
b)Coding and decoding problems : A given word or group of
letters in English are to be coded or decoded based on the
given code(s).
c)Date, time and arrangement problems : Calender and clock
problems, blood relationship and seating arrangements.
d)Passage Analysis : A duly structured situation will be
presented to the candidates and they will be asked to
analyse and suggest their own solution to the problem
arising out of situation. Alternatively, they may be
called upon to prove the understanding of the situation by
answering certain searching questions based on the
situation.

Appsc group 1 further details

s.r.sharma series (blue color)books are great source for tackling the history questions for subjective paper round. the syllabus has been revised and now the students have no choice but to attempt all the parts. The new Appsc group 1 syllabus does not allow you to take any two subjects of your choice and prepare as per it.

according to this , the total marks for the exam are 750. This includes marks from 5 subjects in written exam-
paper 1 general essay (150 marks)
paper 2 history & cultural heritage; social history of AP and overview of Indian Constitution (150 marks)
Paper 3 Planning in India, land reforms and AP's economy.(150 marks)
Paper 4 impact of science & technology, life sciences; development and environmental problems (150 marks)
Paper 5 Data interpretation, problem solving and statistics.(150 marks)

The General English paper is of 150 marks but you only need to get passing marks in it to qualify for the whole written exam and move on to the interview level. The General English marks are not added to the other papers. It is only to qualify for the next level.

Group 1 -no. of attempts, subjects and other details

AGE LIMIT (BC E recently announced by the Govt og AP)

No of Attemts – general category till the age of 33, additional 3-5 years relaxation for SC,ST,BC and others

Procedure of exam- one objective and one subjective round+final interview

subjects (prelims & mains) now it is revised, all subjects are compulsory.
After passing the objective round of one question with four choices, minimum passing marks are atleast 50% to be safe.

Garden d lights Seattle

The Garden d Lights at the Bellevue Botanical Gardens is the perfect reason to get outdoors and keep a camera handy to click several photos. You would need to wear several layers of clothing to walk through the 53 acre lights display in the Botanical Gardens of Bellevue. There is no entrance fee but the visitors are welcome to donate one dollar to five dollars for the event as per their interest.more on garden d lights

It is the best way to combat the gloomy winter and feel bright by looking at the amazing display of lights at the Bellevue Botanical Gardens. This year, the lights display began from November 28th 2009 and will continue to be displayed until January 2nd, 2010. The Garden d Lights display is open to public from 5pm to 10pm every day, including weekends and holidays.
